When do I start giving my son Gerber 2nd foods?
My son is going to be 6 months in a week, and i have been giving him Gerber 1st foods for 2 weeks now. I know its a bit early to ask but im curious.

- Gerber recommends introducing 2nd foods when your child can sit unsupported, and 3rd foods when he/she is crawling, but I'm already feeding my 8.5 month old son from the Graduates line, and he isn't crawling. It's more just a guideline. If your baby seems ready for a larger portion and a little more texture than a fine puree, he's ready for 2nd foods.
- You're supposed to introduce a new veggi or fruit about once a week. You want to do it this way, because if he has any allergies you'll know exactly what caused them, since you're not giving him all kids of different kids at once. Once you introduce all the stage one foods, and you feel he is ready (texture wise) for starge 2, then you can move up. That's what i did, as directed by my doctor.
- most the jars say at 6 months but when he can set up with just a lil bit of help he can have it.
- Now if you want. Second foods by Gerber are of the same consistency in my opinion as 1st foods. Some 2nd foods are a blend of fruits or a blend of veggies. If you've introduced them ... feel free to introduce the blended version ... the 4 day wait rule is a good rule to adhere to regarding food allergies - especially if there are allergies in the family. Purees really aren't necessary either. I feed my near 7 month old food that isn't pureed. Obviously, I don't include chunks that could be a choking hazard ... but food that is nearly liquid (like many jared baby foods) really isn't necessary. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6762795.stm
- When you feel he is hungrier, and can handle thicker foods. But an easier way to do it, is to just give him bits of your food.
