  1. 4 months and ask the doctor
  2. You should start with cereal first not fruit or veggies mix it really thin and try with a spoon to put it in her mouth if she spits it out she's not ready
  3. Its different for every baby but i think they recommend that the baby has to have the open mouth reflex when u put the spoon agianst htere lip.. and they have to be drinking soo many onces of formula a day.. but i think its better to start with the baby cereal mixed with formula to get them use to learnin to swallow food cus they will first push the food out with there tounges till they learn wat to do. Always ask the doctor of course before anything.
  4. I started my son on cereal mixed with his formula at about 3 months and then started him on 2 solid baby foods at 4 months. His doctor said that that was fine. I did it because he was eating an insane amount of formula and it was honestly getting really expensive to feed him. Usually the rule of thumb is 4 months for solids though :)
  5. It depends on the child, my oldest started on baby food around 3 months, my second was only a month and my third was about 2 and 1/2 - 3 months when he started. They all started on cereal from a spoon at 3 weeks old. Never out of a bottle, the reason you get all this advice , is there are some doctors that say you should never feed your baby solids of any sort until they are a year old, and that is ridiculous and then you have people like my friend who suffered for months with a hungry baby, because she didn't know that she could start when the baby was ready as long as you only introduce one food every 2-3 weeks so you can know if there is an allergy.
  6. According to the AAP, 6 months. But, its really better to watch your child and not the calender. She should be sitting unassisted, able to pick things up between her fingers and be eager about food. And, its better to start with fresh foods. Bananas and avocados are exellent first foods. if they push the food out with thier tounge, they are NOT ready. That is a reflex to prevent them from swallowing food they are not ready for. There should be no teaching, or coercing involved, the child should be eager.
  7. Quite frankly babies do not need food before they are 1 year old. In fact feeding them earlier than this can cause food alergies and other problems. All they need is formula or breast milk. I have four kids and have never fed them anything but formula or breast milk until they were 1 year old, and they are all fine!!!
  8. I have two kids and I started both of them on solid foods when they where able to move around more. 4-5 months old. They need the extra nutrients that milk alone cant provide. I asked my Dr. before I started them on Gerber. I started with a mild food like squash or peas. Be carfeful of the foods that are made up of mostly sugar.
  9. Infants should get only breastmilk or formula until about 6 months. Even water is usually not recommended as the baby can get full on the water and not eat enough formula. At six months you can start the baby on rice cereal (or oat or barley cereal). Many people will give you the "Well, I started feeding my baby at 2/3/4 months, and he started sleeping through the night and did fine." Yes, in the old days people fed the babies solid food earlier, but we know now that their digestive systems aren't mature enough to easily digest solids. It is believed one reason babies eating solids early sometimes sleep through the night without crying for food is because their poor little bodies can't digest the solids easily, so they're still "full", even though they aren't getting enough nutrition. Don't give in to pressure, especially from well-meaning older people who remember how it was in the "old days". My two did very well following the pediatricians advice. The following sites may be helpful.
  10. I wouldn't rush to solid food. Up to 6 months of age, the small intestin can leak whole undigested protiens into the blood stream. This usually goes by without a problem at the time, but your baby's immune system will form antibodies to that protein. That can cause a food alergy later in life. This is one readon you see so many allergies to things like strawberries and peanut butter. They're the kind of things people are anxious to get their babies to try.
  11. First of all you know your baby best! If she is gaining weight, is eating on a regular schedule and is sleeping through the night most of the time, she probably does not need solid foods yet. However if she seems to be hungry in a short time after she has had a bottle she may need a little cereal mixed in with some formula to tied her over to the next feeding. Start with rice cereal as this is the easiest for babies to digest and the least likely to have an allergic reaction to. Enjoy your baby! They grow up fast!!
  12. You are able to give her the box ceral where you mix it with water or formula I gave my daughter the gerber jar food at 5 months and shes doing great on it, most doctors say not to till there 6 months though.
  13. My dr suggested me to feed my baby solids from when we visited him for the baby's 4 mo checkup. He said it is fine, as long as he is able to digest and not get constipated.
  14. I just came back from my babies 4 month check up and the doctor recommended that I wait one more month to introduce her to rice cereal. I would wait and ask your babies doctor just to be on the safe side, I heard that if you start solids to early they can develop allergies.
